CN Group wins Warwick licence

It was a battle between three groups, and once again Ofcom has awarded a local radio licence to the bid connected to a neighbouring station.

Laser Broadcasting once again failed to win a licence (Warwick Local Radio) along with former Emap boss Tim Schoonmaker (Silver 107.3 FM).

2Day FM is wholly-owned by CN Group Ltd who also own stations in Stratford-upon-Avon and Banbury. It will provide a locally-focused music and information station for Warwick, Leamington Spa, Kenilworth and the surrounding area.

The licence area has an adult population (aged 15+) of around 100,000. However, the exact coverage will be determined by the location of the transmission site and other technical characteristics.

Ofcom expects 2Day FM to begin broadcasting at the earliest opportunity and no later than two years from this award date.

Industry professionals suspect the station will launch under the new brand name of Touch FM.
