Abbey FM appoint Manager

Abbey FM, the new radio station for Barrow-in-Furness have appointed its Station Manager who will turn the winning licence application into a fully operational radio station.

Andrew Turner, a formerly with TLRC-owned 99.8FM 2BR in East Lancashire has left his position at the Nelson-based station to start a new role in South Cumbria. His first task is to secure premises for the station to broadcast from, followed by recruiting staff to help launch and run Abbey FM.

Andrew told RadioToday.co.uk: “I?m really excited about building a new commercial station in Barrow. As well as providing local people with great music and a top quality local news service, I am certain that Abbey FM will be regarded as a valuable asset to the local community and businesses.”

Abbey FM won the licence on October 3rd 2005 after beating off competition from just one other bidder. The new station is jointly owned by TLRC, The Radio Business and CN Group.
