More Digital Radio for Penrith

The BBC and Digital One have switched on new transmitters bringing national DAB digital radio services to Penrith in Cumbria.

Digital One?s transmitter boosts its existing coverage in Cumbria and brings services to a gross population of over 79,000. It is the 99th transmitter in the national commercial multiplex operator?s network. The BBC?s transmitter brings approximately 32,500 people into BBC national digital radio coverage for the first time in and around Penrith.

The BBC is working with Digital One to extend coverage in the region through shared transmitters.

Listeners will need a DAB digital radio to receive the new stations available on DAB. Existing digital radio listeners in the area should carry out an “autotune” to scan and store the newly available BBC and Digital One stations.
