Forest FM has started broadcasting to the town of Verwood near Bournemouth, officially launching after years of campaigning and almost a dozen trails.
The station, on 92.3FM, bills itself as East Dorset’s very first community radio station. Local MP for East Dorset, Chris Chope, official opened the station on July 9th.
Station Manager Steve Saville said: “After a ten year campaign and 11 RSLs, our area has finally got the licence it deserves. We’ll be the mouthpiece for the community and we?ll also be making sure that the community is involved in actually running the station.”
Forest FM is staffed by a core team of four, with up to 30 active volunteers, many of whom have been with the station since their RSLs started in 1998.
The station’s daytime output will consist of local news and information, soft rock and oldies and then specialist music programmes in the evening. The station is committed to providing airtime to new and unsigned local bands and artists and the response so far has been phenomenal.
