The new local radio station for Barrow and the Furness area of South Cumbria has launched this morning at 9am.
Local Mayor Councillor Bill Crosthwaite launched the station explaining how the area has needed a local commercial station for many years. New local presenter Peter Murphy then launched into his first ever breakfast show, with the first song by the New Radicals 'You Get What You Give'.
Abbey FM is part owned by CN Group, The Radio Business and The Local Radio Company and won the licence for the Barrow area 12 months ago. The group have previously operated two RSL licences in the area, in 2002 and 2003.
