Two apply for Hereford licence

Just two applications have been submitted for the new local radio licence for Herefordshire & Monmouthshire.

Laser Broadcasting are proposing to extend their 'Classic Hits' format to the area, whilst Town and Country Broadcasting are proposing two services to cover each area independently.

Laser Broadcasting are currently in the process of purchasing Herefordshire and Worcestershire station Classic Hits 954 & 1530 – which would give Laser a sister station. They are proposing “A distinctive speech and music led radio station for Herefordshire and Monmouthshire, with local news and information.”

Town and Country Broadcasting, headed by Jason Bryant are applying to operate two independent stations, Radio Herefordshire & Radio Monmouthshire. Both services would be "Highly localised adult mainstream services acting as the “voice” of their respective county through a commitment to local speech and an emphasis on local news and information. The service will be operated as two distinctly local programme outputs.”

Ofcom will publish the applications within the next seven days.
