End of the road for River FM

West Lothian radio station River FM has closed. The Kingdom Radio Group station said in December it would close if no buyers were found. True to their word, the station has ceased broadcasting with the final song "All good things come to an end" by Nelly Furtado.

Other songs played just before the switch off at 6pm included Communards – Never can say goodbye and Keane – This is the last time.

Kevin Brady from Kingdom Radio Group told RadioToday.co.uk in December if nobody was interested in buying the station by January 29th, they would switch off the transmitter.

An article in a Sunday newspaper suggested that Perth FM owner Mark Page might be interested in the station – but Mark told us the article was inaccurate and pure speculation: "Perth FM Limited will look at opportunities to expand its operations if they fit within the way the company is developing its radio brands," he said.

Ofcom has told RadioToday.co.uk they are naturally disappointed that Kingdom FM have decided to close the station. They currently have no plans to re-advertise the licence, but a final decision will be made by the Radio Licensing Committee on the next steps for the licence/spectrum shortly.
