Country Music Award for MFR

Inverness presenter Helen McPherson has been awarded the Country Music Association’s International Broadcaster of the Year. Helen has been broadcasting her Country show across the North of Scotland for the last 25 years.

She was presented with the award at a CMA event held in Glasgow on Saturday. She currently has two shows per week and it’s her broadcasting skill and vast knowledge of Country Music demonstrated over the years which have earned her the award.

During her years as the ‘Queen of Country’ on Moray Firth Radio she’s interviewed and met many stars from the world of country music, from Boxcar Willie to Shania Twain.

Helen went to the special CMA event with no idea she was to scoop the award. This is not the first time she’s had this kind of surprise – in April 2006 Daniel O’Donnell made a special appearance at the MFR awards to give her a lifetime achievement award. Many of her Country celeb pals paid their own personal tributes, among them Reba McIntyre and Charley Pride.

Daniel O’Donnell said of the CMA award: “Helen richly deserves the award in her 25th year in broadcasting, she is a great ambassador for Country Music and on a personal note Helen’s support for me at the start of my career helped me achieve my International singing star status”.

Managing Director of Moray Firth Radio, Danny Gallagher said the whole radio station is ecstatic at this award for such a remarkable broadcaster. “In the many years in the radio industry, rarely have I come across such a presenter who is not only loved by her listeners but also her peers. I certainly think this will be rather emotional for Helen as I know it will mean a lot to have this level of recognition.”
