Radio profits up for UTV

Northern Irish broadcaster UTV have reported a strong performance for it's radio stations in the last 12 months, with profits for the division up by 50 per cent. Total group operating profits are up 6 per cent, whilst television operating profits are down 24 per cent.

Ad revenue in Britain grew by 6 per cent on a like for like basis, compared to a reported market decline of 5 per cent. Radio advertising in Ireland grew by 12 percent on a like for like basis.

John McCann, Group Chief Executive, UTV, said: "Our strategy of developing media interests outside our TV business through the acquisition of radio assets in both GB and Ireland has resulted in our radio divisions' contributing the larger proportion of the Group's revenue and operating profit for the first time.

'Our strong regional TV advertising performance has once again resulted in an outperformance when compared to ITV1. We have had a positive start to 2007 and I remain confident of our ability to continue to outperform against a backdrop of difficult trading conditions in the GB advertising market.'
