XM to provide Irish channel

American satellite radio network XM are about to launch a 72-hour long channel to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. The channel will be devoted exclusively to the music and culture of Ireland and include bands such as The Chieftains, James Galway, The Clancy Brothers and The Dubliners.

Popular hits from contemporary artists including The Pogues and Flogging Molly will also be showcased on XM Green. In addition, Ireland's old-style songs and traditional melodies will be performed by artists such as Dennis Day, Celtic Thunder, Irish Weavers and Frankie Gavin, among many others. The channel also will highlight the rich legacy of music originating from the heartland of the ancient Celtic civilization.
