100,000 sign for Alan Johnston

More than 100,000 people from all over the world have joined the support petition calling for the release of kidnapped Alan Johnson. The BBC Gaza correspondent was was last seen on the afternoon of 12 March 2007 and has worked in Gaza for three years.

The petition was launched on 2 April in the Guardian newspaper when 300 leading figures from the journalistic community signed a petition calling for Johnston's release. A wide range of correspondents, editors and presenters from the UK and abroad were among the signatories.
