An Original launch in Bristol

Original 106.5 has launched in Bristol at 1:06 (and 5 seconds) this afternoon. The new station is owned by CanWest MediaWorksUK and won the licence to broadcast to the city in 2006, beating off competition from Macquarie, UTV, Absolute Radio, GCap Media and Wicked FM. The first song played was Bohemian Like You by Dandy Warhols.

Original Bristol aims to make use of their extensive playlist, promising never to play the same song twice in the same day. Weekday presenters include Stewart Smith on breakfast, Faye Dicker during the day, David Francis on afternoon drive, Ricki Lee in the evening and Vicky West overnight.

Weekend presenters include Chris Criddle and Rosie Kendrick. The station will take the networked 'A List Chart' each Sunday.

As with Original 106 in Solent, Chrysalis Radio has been appointed to act as the London Sales Representative for the station. Tom Hunter, MD at Original said "Chrysalis Radio Sales is a natural choice for us — our existing relationship has given them a real understanding of our needs and the continued growth of the Original brand is a testament to the great support we’ve received so far.”

The station will provide local news 24 hours a day, backed up by colleagues at Independent Radio News in London. John Perkins, MD of IRN said: “It’s fantastic news that CanWest chose us as their news supplier for the Original 106.5 in Bristol. We look forward to building our relationship with CanWest and delivering national news to Original 106.5 listeners around the clock.”
