Radio City boss McKenna quits

Iain McKenna has quit his position as managing director of Radio City in Liverpool to join CanWest. Iain will take charge in Aberdeen for the launch of Original later this year. He quit just hours before taking to the stage at the Sonys last week to collect Radio City's station of the year award.

He told Scotland on Sunday that he has not fallen out with Emap, but realised this was probably his last chance to launch a radio station. He goes head-to-head with his former colleagues at Northsound, which he was managing director from September 2004 to February 2006.

"I suppose any business is risky. From a radio station point of view, I don't believe it's risky. We are owned by CanWest and it is investing heavily," he told the newspaper. "What we don't want to do is recreate Northsound. But Northsound has a fantastic group of people and if any of them were interested, we would be silly not to talk to them."
