Digital radio station BBC 6 Music is turning its schedule upside down as their mid-morning and late show presenters switch places. George Lamb will take over in the 10am to 1pm slot from October, whilst current morning presenter Gideon Coe takes Lamb's show in the evenings 10pm to 1am. George Lamb's been at the station for six months and also does regular TV work.
Lamb's new show – which'll start on Monday 22nd October – will include new music, archive tracks and exclusive sessions recorded in the 6 Music Hub. George says, "I've really enjoyed the last few months at 6 Music and should be the happiest man alive, but the morning slot clashes with Homes Under the Hammer".
Lesley Douglas, Controller, Radio 2 and 6 Music, says: "George has really impressed me both before he joined 6 Music, and since he got his feet under the table. He has a rare combination of wit, warmth and passion for music, so I am delighted that he has agreed to launch this new show on BBC 6 Music. I am really proud of the talent who work with 6 Music like Stephen Merchant, Russell Brand and Russell Howard."
Next week George hosts The Restaurant: You're Fried on BBC Three, a spin-off show from BBC Two's The Restaurant in which Raymond Blanc puts nine couples through their paces to see if they have what it takes to run their own restaurant. He's also a regular presenter on Channel 4 and E4 Music. Before presenting he was in the music industry and was responsible for helping launch the careers of Audio Bullys and Lily Allen.
Gideon Coe's moving to the late-night slot that'll be vacated by Lamb, and says: "I'm looking forward to doing basically the same things — playing good records, keeping it brief and side-splittingly hilarious in-between and, most importantly, interacting with listeners. I'm looking forward to doing all that but 12 hours later than I'm used to. By my reckoning that's 12 more hours in bed though that might be a false economy."
