Kiss catches Capital 95.8

Kiss has over taken GCap Media's flagship station in London in terms of market share for the first time. And the Emap station is just four thousand listeners behind the once mighty Capital. Magic 105.4 and Heart 106.2 both enjoy a 6.2 per cent share, giving them the number one and two spot in the capital.

Commercially, breakfast in London now belongs to Jamie and Harriet on Heart 106.2 at 872,000 listeners, with Johnny Vaughan now at number two losing 18,000 listeners taking him to 836,000.

Phil Riley, outgoing Chief Executive said: “This is a fantastic set of Rajar figures with Heart’s London breakfast show back at number one and Heart still flying high as the nation’s number one independent local radio brand.

“It couldn’t be a better way to pass the baton on to the new team at Global Radio.”

Neil Fox on Magic comes in third, closing the gap with an extra one hundred thousand listeners. He now has a 823,000 weekly reach.

Dee Ford, group managing director, Emap Radio, said: “It is fantastic that in the UK’s most competitive radio market, Emap is both number one and number three. We’re delighted to see Kiss joining Magic among the dominant radio players.

“Emap continues to dominate the digital-only platforms supporting Emap Radio’s strategy of offering our audiences compelling content available whenever, wherever and however our listeners want it.

“We continue to innovate in radio and are looking forward to September’s launch of the all new Heat Radio with its revolutionary new commercial model and innovative approach to programming — which will create the UK’s first celebrity radio station – and also to the launch of Closer Radio next year.”

A new RAJAR measuring specification was introduced for the latest results. These figures do not take in to account possible changes in TSA and are offered only as a guide.
