Smooth contract up for review

The lucrative contract to market the Smooth Radio brand will be up for grabs as owners GMG Radio appoint the Advertising Agency Register to handle a competitive pitch for theaccount early in the New Year.

Clear Marketing Communications, which managed the creative campaign for the launch of Smooth Radio and also retain the accounts for GMG Radio’s Real and Century FM stations will be invited to pitch for the business.

The move comes as GMG Radio prepares to invest significantly in marketing Smooth Radio, which launched in March this year in five locations around the UK. A sixth, in Newcastle, will launch in January 2008.

GMG Radio ggroup commercial director Stuart Taylor said: “Clear have done a great job across all our brands and in particular the launch of Smooth across the UK. As we plan to increase our marketing spend on Smooth significantly over the next couple of years and in particular across London we want to ensure we have the right creative marketing message that provides us with the most powerful proposition for the brand. Clear will be re-pitching for the Smooth business and we are delighted with that”.
