Edith Bowman gives birth

BBC Radio 1 afternoon presenter Edith Bowman has given birth to her first child. Rudy Brae Bowman Smith was born on Tuesday at the Portland Hospital in London weighing 6lb 9oz.

Her partner is Editors lead singer Tom Smith and the BBC have said that mother and baby are both doing well.

Andy Parfitt, controller of BBC Radio 1, said: "Everyone at Radio 1 sends their love and best wishes to Edith and Tom."

Nihal is currently covering Edith's afternoon show till the end of June, while Vernon Kay and Fearne Cotton will each occupy various dates during July and August.
