New station for Fenland refused

Ofcom have revoked the radio licence for Fenland, after it was handed back to the regulators last week by UKRD.
It means the licence will not be re-advertised and that there will no new service to replace Fen Radio.

Instead Ofcom will extend the coverage of Star Radio in Cambridge, to include the adjoining locality of Ely, by means of a relay transmitter.
Four people are set to lose their jobs as a result of the closure of Fen Radio.
In September 2006, UKRD made radio history by becoming the first group to surrender a licence to the regulator with the closure of its Star service in Stroud, Gloucestershire.
Since then, only one other licence has been handed back; that of Kingdom Group's River FM in Livingston.
