The Coast 106 launches

The Solent area's newest radio station The Coast 106 launched this morning, taking over the frequencies previously used by Original 106.

The station is now owned by Celador Radio, one of the orignal bidders for the licence before CanWest was awarded the licence in 2005.
Kevin Stewart, former chief executive of Tindle Radio, has been appointed as managing director of the Southampton-based station. Celador's chairman Paul Smith told the Dorset Echo: "Radio is my passion and I am absolutely thrilled to be able to bring a radio station to the region that really delivers what a huge under-served section of the community want and advertisers want to reach them, need."
Around £1m is being invested in the launch of the station, which started broadcasting More Tracks and Less Chat at 5:30am today.
