GMG Radio poach Google exec

GMG Radio has appointed Jonathan Gillespie to the role of Commercial Director. He’ll take on the responsibility of all commercial activity for the group’s portfolio of 13 Smooth, Real, Century and Rock Radio stations.

He starts his new role in April, transferring over from his post at Google UK where he has been Head of You Tube and Display for the past year. His role will include strategic and operational responsibility for Marketing, National and Regional Sales together with Digital activity.
Jonathan’s career in radio sales spans 14 years, including stints as Head of Sponsorship and Branded Content at OMD UK, followed by the role of Director at Opera Media. He was voted No.20 in Revolution magazine’s ‘ Power 50’ in 2008.
Jonathan’s appointment comes as the current Commercial Director and Deputy CEO Stuart Taylor moves to take up the role of Chief Executive in April, following the departure of John Myers, who is leaving the group after 10 years.
Taylor said: “ We are really pleased to welcome Jonathan to GMG Radio where his wide experience in radio, agencies and digital will strengthen an already formidable team. The future of radio is exciting and I have no doubt Jonathan will play an important part in shaping our position within it”.
Gillespie added: “I am hoping that the knowledge and insight I have gleaned in the digital arena will add to my radio experience, and be of benefit as a new radio landscape emerges.”
