Mersey takes over KCR frequency

After a much troubled history, the frequency previously used by KCR on Merseyside has sprung back to life on Thursday with another new radio station – "Mersey 106.7 – Great Songs for Liverpool"

RadioToday.co.uk understands the station is still owned by Polaris Media, with the last official contact from the station in November confirming KCR was operating in automation, with staff having been unable to gain access to their studio.
But despite the original licence being issued to cover Knowsley, the station's strap line suggests it is now covering Liverpool. According to the Ofcom website, this licence is due to [link=http://www.ofcom.org.uk/static/radiolicensing/amfm/AL262-1.htm]expire[/link] in five months time.
RadioToday.co.uk is awaiting to hear from the station owners and Ofcom regarding how the station managed to start broadcasting.
