Radio 1's Big weekend announced

The annual Radio 1 Big Weekend for 2009 will take place in Swindon's Lydiard Park on the weekend of the 9th and 10th of May. The news was announced as Chris Moyles and his team broadcast live from the town this morning.

N-Dubz and Snow Patrol are the first acts to be confirmed, with more to be announced in the coming weeks. There will be live music across four stages and the whole event will be broadcast live on Radio 1, with highlights on BBC 3 TV.
Chris Moyles said: "We always try to bring it to places that don't normally get big events like this. The people of Swindon are going to love it."
Jason Carter, Radio 1's editor of live music and events, said: "Radio 1 is delighted to be heading to Swindon this year. "It's our ninth Big Weekend and we'll be bringing some of the biggest international and UK artists to Lydiard Park."
Last year's event was in Maidstone, Kent, and was headlined by Madonna.
