Bauer withdraws from Sky platform

Bauer Radio is removing five of its national stations from the Sky platform next week, its strategy director Travis Baxter confirmed today. Q, Heat Radio, Kerrang, The Hits and Smash Hits will come off Sky.

Though Kiss and Magic will remain on the Sky platform, Baxter said the move would allow Bauer to concentrate on the digital platforms that have the biggest audience – DAB and Freeview.
"We're absolutely up to our necks in where we go with DAB," he told Radio Today. "We have fantastic coverage and huge audiences on Freeview.
"We can't be in everything. We can't invest in every platform that's going."
But Baxter added that Bauer would continue to look at the platforms it broadcasts on and could change its mind in the coming years.
