Comments from Sony Winners

We like a good press release as much as the next person, and it was encouraging to see so many from Sony Award winning stations shouting about their success.

We'll start off with Kerrang!, which won three awards in total. The Station of the Year (1 million plus), a Silver for Simon James and Hill in the Music Radio Personality category, and the Sony DAB Rising Star Award went to 26 year old Singing Henry, a.k.a Henry Evans.
Kerrang! Radio Programme Director Gordon Davidson said "This confirms that Kerrang! is the West Midlands' premier radio team with a growing audience thanks to the changes implemented over a year ago. We have fantastic listeners and their energy drives this radio station."
JACK fm and FM 107.9, Absolute Radio's two Oxford(shire) stations were nominated in four categories in total. JACK won the bronze for station imaging, whilst news editor Greg Burke received the same honour for the themed programming category. General Manager Ian Walker says: “An amazing night and a great achievement… though I think the team were almost as excited by meeting Rolf Harris as they were by the win. It proves once again we are providing Oxfordshire with two brilliant, original radio stations and now they're rightly recognised as award worthy."
Meanwhile, over at Bauer, Kiss 100's [lightbox=http://radiohub.co.uk/uploads_user/1000/331/347.jpg|||]Rickie and Melvin[/lightbox] were recognised as new stars of breakfast radio with Sony Silver. Steve Parkinson, MD London Radio, Bauer Media, said: “For Rickie and Melvin to receive Silver in the Breakfast Show Award category is a fantastic achievement! We have just celebrated Kiss’ highest-ever reach and Rickie and Melvin are going from strength to strength. This recognition from our radio colleagues really is the icing on the cake.”

He's happy: “To be awarded the Sony Gold Award is a great honour – and particularly significant as it is voted for by industry professionals who understand the challenges and rewards of working in radio."
The team at Fun Kids, the UK’s dedicated children’s radio station are celebrating the award of Digital Radio Station of the Year 2009. Managing Director Gregory Watson said: “Since our relaunch in January, we have worked hard to make the station the first choice for children, and a choice their mums, dads and carers love too. This award shows we are on the right track and launches us forward to a summer of great events on Fun Kids”.
