GMG praised at Arqiva Awards

GMG Radio took home the Gold Award at the 2009 Arqiva Commercial Radio Awards, whilst former CEO John Myers was presented with the Arqiva Special Award.

The industry awards, hosted by Absolute Radio breakfast show presenter Christian O'Connell were watched by over 500 people from around the country.

Highlights include Classic FM and talkSPORT both scoop 2 gongs, STAR Radio Cambridge’s Ryan Taylor awarded New Presenter Award, Jamie Theakston and Harriet Scott proclaimed Radio Presenters of the Year, and Planet Rock takes Digital Station of the Year

News Award – Pirate FM News Team
Programme or Feature of the Year – The A-Z of Classic FM Music – Classic FM
Station Creative Award – Gary Muircroft, Carole McConnell & Ann-Marie Miller – Central FM
Technical Innovation – Global Radio Creative Technology for the iPhone Application
Digital Station of the Year – Planet Rock
Social Action Award – 97.4 Rock FM – Breakfast Breakout
In addition, special awards were given out to Suzanne Grant of Radio City in Liverpool for Marketing, Take That for most played song on commercial radio, John Myers for the Special Award, the COI for spending lots of money on commercial radio, and GMG Radio for their investment in commercial radio programming.
