8,000 complain over 6 Music

The proposed closure of BBC 6 Music has attracted almost eight thousand complaints, the BBC has confirmed.

Asian Network, also destined to close next year, has had 624 people voice their opinion during the last 10 days.

Ever since the [link=https://radiotoday.co.uk/news.php?extend.5683]announcement[/link] at the beginning of last week, there have been thousands of news articles in both mainstream press and industry websites. Celebrities and singers have voiced their dismay at the threat of closing 6 Music, whilst presenters on the station have also spoken out about the decision.

A spokesman [link=http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2010/mar/12/bbc-complaints-close-6music]said[/link]: "It is absolutely right that licence-fee payers have an opportunity to have their say on big decisions like service closures before final conclusions are reached and that is why the BBC Trust is running a public consultation in which we hope as many people as possible will participate in."
