Marc Almond hosts Radio 2 doc

Singer Marc Almond is to present a three part series for BBC Radio 2, about Jacques Brel.

Production company Made in Manchester has recruited the Soft Cell front-man to explore the life and music of the singer songerwriter.

Producer Daniel Manicolo says: “More than 30 years after his death, Brel is still revered across the generations in the French speaking world but because he mainly wrote and sang in French, he is more of a cult figure in the UK and America.

“Marc Almond is the perfect presenter for this series because he’s a huge Brel fan and a French chanson specialist.”

MIM’s latest series for Radio 2 follows previous productions, including Dick Emery: The Comedy of Errors? (Presented by David Walliams), Benny Hill: The Untold Story (Presented by Ben Miller) and Leadbelly: A Secret History of Rock and Roll (Presented by Animals’ frontman Eric Burdon).

Behind The Brel: The Story of a Musical Genius airs on BBC Radio 2 at 11.30pm on Tuesdays from next week – March 16th, March 23rd and March 30th.
