More iPhone apps from UBC

UBC Media has agreed a deal with four more radio groups to create mobile applications based around Apple's iPhone.

Joining current customers Planet Rock and UTV, are stations within Tindle Radio, UKRD/TLRC and Orion Media groups, along with Jazz FM.

UBC's software division, Unique Interactive is developing and supplying iPhone and other mobile platform applications to radio clients for free in return for selling advertising space within the applications.

Revenue from the advertising, which is being sold by the Lynx Content internet advertising business acquired by UBC last year, is then shared between UBC and the radio station client.

UTV Radio (talkSPORT and the locals) and Planet Rock are already on board, taking the number of stations served by the UBC deal to 45.

Simon Cole, Chief Executive of UBC said: "The rapid growth of our network demonstrates the momentum in what I believe will become an increasingly important market for radio stations. Consumer habits are changing and streamed listening on mobile devices is the fastest growing area of overall radio listening. I believe that the new iPhone radio network combines perfectly UBC's core strengths of content and related technology and we expect it to be a major part of our commercial offering in the future."
