Tom swaps Smooth for Real

Smooth Radio North East's breakfast show presenter Tom Davies is to stay with GMG Radio when the station takes network programmes from next month.

He's moving to sister station Real Radio to host the weekend breakfast slot, as well as the football phone-in after live commentary games.

Tom – a former breakfast and phone-in jock at stations including TFM and Magic 1170 – has spent the last three years on weekday breakfast at Smooth Radio. From 4 October, like the other Smooth stations in England, all programing will be networked from London or Manchester.

Tom says: "I can't wait to get stuck in to Weekend Breakfast on Real Radio, it's been amazing to be part of the Smooth Radio success story from launch in the North East and I would like to thank all the listeners for tuning in and putting the station on the map.

"Moving from Smooth Radio to Real Radio is another great opportunity for me. I'm also thrilled to be working alongside North East Footballing Legends Gary Rowell and Bob Moncur on the Football Phone In after every Real Radio commentary. It's like doing a show every week with your idols."

Jon Kirby, Programme Controller for Real Radio North East added: "Tom joins an already formidable team at Real Radio and having enjoyed some fantastic listening figures at Smooth Radio, Tom's arrival completes the dream team. He is going to bring a fresh sound to weekend breakfast and the Football Phone In."
