Strictly star joins Choice FM
Destiny's Child singer Michelle Williams – who was recently voted off the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing – is joining Choice FM to co-present breakfast until Christmas. She'll team up with Martin Jay on Global's London-based urban music station.
Pure flows out new connected set
Radio makers Pure have launched what they're calling their most affordable, portable internet-connected digital radio ever. Part of the low-priced ONE range, the Pure One Flow adds streamed internet radio to DAB and FM, with the firm claiming the sub-£100 price tag will help change the market.
BBC Newcastle celebrates Metro
BBC Newcastle is launching a search for local singers to star in a musical about the Tyne and Wear Metro. Metro the Musical will feature North East people telling their own stories and experiences of the public transport service as it celebrates 30 years.
Bauer brands get Kings of Leon
Eighteen Bauer radio stations are to broadcast a night of Kings of Leon programming, including a live performance they've secured the rights to. The gig in Sheffield just before Christmas will be aired across the group's Big City Network, as well as digital stations Q and Kerrang!, in the New Year.
BRMB Walkathon raises £333k
Birmingham radio station BRMB has handed over a cheque for more than £330,000 from its massive fundraising event to help wounded soldiers. The Walkathon in June raised money for a special unit at the city's Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Canadian app deal for UBC
British production firm UBC Media has won a contract to provide mobile phone applications for a group of 83 radio stations in Canada. The deal with Orbyt Media, a division of Astral Radio, is part of UBC's strategy to develop advertiser-supported app networks for the industry.
Real covers Wales in January
GMG Radio has confirmed that its Real Radio brand will go national in Wales from 8am on 4 January 2011, with the launch of the service on FM in Mid and North Wales. Real already broadcasts to the South and West of the country, with the service the group won its first licence for more [...]
London gets Noughties on DAB
Absolute Radio is launching the next logical radio station in its "decade" theme with the additional of Absolute Radio 00s. The station will broadcast on DAB in London, and the line-up will feature Christian O’Connell on breakfast, Vicki Blight on daytime and Lucio on afternoons.
Ozzy joins Kerrang as Patron
Ozzy Osbourne has joined Kerrang! Radio’s first ever charity campaign. The singer, who originates from Birmingham, has become a Patron of Kerrang! Cash for Kids. The charity will raise funds for children across the West Midlands.
Myers to review BBC networks
Former GMG Radio Chief Executive John Myers is to spend 3 months conducting a review of BBC Radios 1, 2 1Xtra and 6 Music before taking up his new job at the Radio Academy. He'll recommend ways of delivering programmes on the popular networks in a more cost-effective way to save licence fee payers' money.
