Evans bags both TRIC awards

Chris Evans has won both of the radio prizes at this year's TRIC awards, picking up Digital Radio Personality and Best Radio Programme.

For the personality award he beat fellow Radio 2 presenter Simon Mayo and Radio 1 breakfast host Chris Moyes, while the nominees missing out in the radio programme category were Moyles and Capital's Johnny and Lisa.

This year's Television and Radio Industries Club awards were hosted by Spandau Ballet frontman Tony Hadley and took place as usual at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London this afternoon.

Last year's Radio Personality at the awards was Chris Evans' predecessor on Radio 2 breakfast, Terry Wogan, while Chris Moyles was the previous winner of the radio programme prize.

Asked how it felt to beat Radio 1 rival Moyles to both awards this year, Evans said: "It feels fine." Picking up the radio show award, Chris paid tribute to his newsreader Moira Stuart and led the audience in a rendition of God Save the Queen in her honour.

The TRIC awards have been running since 1969 and are voted for not by a panel of judges or a committee, but by the many members of the industry.
