Manchester gigs as XFM turns 5

Global Radio’s Xfm in Manchester is celebrating its fifth birthday with a series of live concerts starting this week.

The Wombats will kick off several acoustic lunchtime sessions, which will finish with a performance by Noah and The Whale at the end of March.

Each session will be performed to an intimate studio audience and broadcast live across the Xfm network at 1.30pm, with Tim Cocker and Clint Boon giving listeners the chance to win invites during their breakfast and drive-time shows.

The station is also running a search for ‘Xfm’s Greatest Manchester Song of All Time’. Listeners will vote throughout the month and the ultimate chart will be revealed from 3-6pm on Sunday 3rd April, with the help of some of the biggest names in Manchester music.

Xfm’s Programme Director Andy Ashton told us: “We can’t believe it’s been five years already since the birth of Xfm Manchester. It’s been an amazing time and it’s a joy to celebrate this milestone with our listeners across the network. We’re going to deliver some amazing musical treats with the help of some of the artists and bands who have enjoyed so much success with Xfm over these years.”

Xfm’s Clint Boon – former member of Manchester group Inspiral Carpets – added: "I’m proud to be a part of the station’s 5th birthday. What we have planned is a true testament to a great five years, Manchester’s rich musical heritage, and a taster of what the future holds."
