Beacon marks 35 years on air

Wolverhampton's Beacon Radio has been marking its 35th birthday by broadcasting old clips and listeners' memories of the station over the years.

Beacon 303 launched on 12 April 1976, so the station's been giving away prizes of £303 – as well as a signed copy of the first record played which was Sunrise by Eric Carmen.

Long-serving breakfast presenter Nigel Freshman's also received a Certificate of Excellence from Wolverhampton Mayor Councillor Malcolm Gwinnet to mark his 21st anniversary at the station. Fresh joined when he was just 18 and has had various presenting roles over the years at Beacon.

Dozens of former Beacon staff were also invited back to celebrate the old times and have a tour of the new-look station.
