GMG Radio lead New York noms

GMG Radio have received seven nominations for this year’s world radio awards at the New York Festivals.

Elsewhere the list of UK nominees is dominated by independent production companies, with TBI Media shortlisted five times, Folded Wing three, and Ten Alps and Wise Buddah getting two nods each.

Among those nominated are two recent Sony Gold winners – TBI’s John Bonham Story for Radio 2 and 6 Music, and GMG’s Real Radio North West.

John Simons, Group Programming Director for GMG Radio said: “This has been an incredible year which has seen GMG Radio and its stations nominated in swathes for some of the radio industry’s most prestigious awards, turning them to gold and winning! The hard work and tireless dedication which the teams across the group show is admired, respected by everyone at GMG Radio and is now being recognised by their peers. I could not be prouder of what the teams and individual people have achieved and wish them all the very best of luck in tuning these nominations into gold.”

Oxfordshire’s Jack FM is celebrating being shortlisted too – hot on the heels of 5 Arqiva nominatations and 3 at the Sonys. Programme Controller Sue Carter told “We always cross our fingers when award time comes around but it’s mindblowing to be recognised so many times for so many different features. It just shows that despite our appearance, there’s some cutting edge stuff coming out of our dumpy little bunker in Woodstock Road.”

The winners of the awards will be announced in New York on 20th June.
