Mercia Walk of Warwickshire raises £55k

Coventry station Mercia has raised more than £55,000 for a local children’s charity through its 12-mile sponsored Walk of Warwickshire.

More than 2,000 people took part in the event from Warwick to Coventry yesterday, with breakfast presenter JD also doing a 100-mile challenge.

Mercia’s Walk of Warwickshire – which was raising money for the charity Snowball – follows similar events by Orion Media sister stations brmb and Beacon which together raised more than half a million pounds over the last six weeks.

Mercia’s total on the day was £55,132, including over £3k raised by JD who took part in the public walk as the final part of a 7-day challenge to walk 100 miles.

JD told us: “I’m so proud of the people of Coventry and Warwickshire for raising such an amazing amount of money for Snowball. There were times on my walk I didn’t think I’d finish, but crossing the line with so many people kept me going. It’s great that all of this money will go to help kids who live over the road from us and on our doorstep. Thank you to everyone involved with the day.”
