Real and Smooth to light up Blackpool again

Blackpool’s world famous illuminations will again be turned on by GMG’s Real and Smooth Radio brands this year, after the group won the event from the BBC for the first time in 2010.

The event on Friday 2nd September will be broadcast live again across the network of Real and Smooth stations across the UK.

Last year’s free gig was headlined by Robbie Williams and drew a crowd of more than 15,000 a specially set up arena in the Lancashire coastal resort. In the few years before 2010, BBC Radio 2 had been the main media partner and had broadcast the show live.

Andy Carter, MD of GMG Radio North West said: “We’re really pleased to again be part of the Blackpool Illuminations Switch On Ceremony. Last year’s event was quite simply incredible for the huge number of people who attended and our audiences listening-in across Smooth and Real Radio. We’ve been working hard over the last few months to secure some outstanding artists, details of which we’ll be releasing in the coming months live on Real Radio, Smooth Radio and through visitBlackpool.”

Councillor Graham Cain, Cabinet Member for Tourism & Culture at Blackpool Council added: “We’re absolutely delighted to be working with GMG again this year as our media partner for the 2011 Blackpool Illuminations Switch On Ceremony.”
