Vibe goes live for Watford youngsters

Watford’s new community radio station aimed at young people aged 13-25 has been launched this week by the local Mayor.

Vibe 107.6 was born out of previous RSLs over the last five years for the town under the name Fresh FM.

The licence was awarded in February last year and the station is promising to play dance, R&B, Rock, Indie, Chart and Hip-Hop music as well as having a number of specialist programmes. One of the station’s set aims is to provide a platform to discuss issues like anti-social behaviour, youth un-employment, drugs and bullying.

David Rees, Operations Director for Vibe 107.6, who joined the project after leaving his job as a director for Tindle Radio said: “I grew up in Watford and have a huge passion for the town – being able to be a part of a new local radio station for Watford was a natural marriage for me.”

Matt Cadman, Founder and Programme Director for Vibe 107.6 added: “I started this project in 2006 and to see it back on air full time is a very nice feeling. It is not easy obtaining a FM broadcasting licence from the regulator Ofcom and I’d like to personally thank the whole team and all the support given to the project over the years.”
