Ex-GCap Head of News returns to radio

Simon Cliffe, former Head of News of GCap Media has joined radio news and consumer content provider IMN.

Simon left radio in 2008 and was appointed CEO of the British Association of Picture Libraries and Agencies but says he is now delighted to be back in radio.

Simon began his radio career at GWR’s Chiltern FM in the late 90’s, working initially as a broadcast journalist. He climbed the ranks of GWR and in 2003 become Group Head of News.

After GWR merged with the Capital Group to become GCap Media Simon became Group News Editor of Radio and Digital News overseeing over 150 journalists.

Simon said: “The challenge and opportunity presented by IMN was just too much to resist, and after three years away I’m delighted to be back in radio! The team I’ve inherited is talented and dedicated, and the foundations already set at IMN mean we can move forward quickly.

“The digital landscape continues to change and investment is already in place to exploit the multi-media way of providing content; but we’re well aware that quality content is king, and as the gloomy economic clouds continue to darken, our strategy will ensure IMN becomes a critical part of the programming tool-kit at BBC and commercial radio stations. With that in mind, I’m very much looking forward to hooking up with my former colleagues over the next few months.”

IMN’s Managing Director Adam Cox says: “Simon’s appointment represents a coup for Independent Media News”.

“To attract a journalist and editorial leader of such skill and experience to head IMN is a testament to IMN’s reputation and heralds an exciting new phase for us.

“I am thrilled that Simon is bringing his talent, experience and vision to us.”

Simon will start his new role as Head of News on Monday 24th October 2011.
