Alan Titchmarsh signs for Classic FM

Former Radio 2 presenter Alan Titchmarsh is joining Global Radio’s Classic FM to host a new Saturday morning show starting in the New Year.

Titchmarsh left the BBC at the end of August after four and half years when his Sunday evening ‘Melodies for You’ programme was scrapped.

Alan said: “I am delighted to be joining the radio station that I tune in to most of all and look forward to sharing my passion for a wide range of classical music at, what to me, is a very special time in the week – Saturday morning.”

Global Radio’s Director of Broadcasting Richard Park said: “Alan is a first class presenter and broadcaster and this, alongside his love of classical music, makes him the perfect addition to the Classic FM family as we kick off our 20th anniversary celebrations.”

Titchmarsh’s arrival at the national classic music station in the Saturday 9am-12non slot sees a shuffle of the weekend schedule from 7th January 2012. The programme Alan is replacing – the Classic FM Chart with Mark Forrest moves to Sundays at 5pm. A new Saturday Night at the Movies show presented by Howard Goodall will feature film music and scores, while Natalie Wheen’s Great Performers will feature legendary classical musicians from the last 70 years and air Sundays 9-10pm. And Alex James’ A-Z of Classic FM Music moves from Sunday afternoons to Saturday evenings at 7pm.

Alan is perhaps most famous for his work as a presenter on a number of TV shows over the years including Gardeners’ World, Ground Force, Pebble Mill and his current ITV1 chat show ‘The Alan Titchmarsh Show’.
