Ditchy & Salty dropped from Real breakfast

Real Radio Northwest breakfast presenters David Ditchfield and Paul Salt, better known as Ditchy and Salty, are being split up and placed elsewhere on the schedule.

The station says a new breakfast team will be announced shortly, along with a new line-up.

Their final show together will be this Friday, after three and a half years in the flag-ship slot.

The changes come just two months after Programme Director Dave Shearer left the station after being made redundant.

Mark Matthews, who is now the Real Radio Brand Programme Director said: “We will be starting the new year with a fresh new Real Breakfast Show and we will be unveiling the new team very soon. Ditchy and Salty have entertained listeners at breakfast across the north west for 3 ½ years and we thank them for their hard work and commitment to the station.”

    I think Real Radio  (GMG) and most other groups these days just want sales ..not listeners or quality presenters.. remember ILR is only there to sell airtime NOT to provide a service (local or not)…. If stations could bin news they would …

    Salty is a” god” to breakfast radio ….. the best thing GMG can do is drop the brand Real Radio and go back to the Century Brand … first they bin Dave Lincoln from Smooth ..now Salty from  Real breakfast

    What an absolutely stupid decision it is to scrap the ditchy and salty breakfast show. Who had that idea? They need sacking, big dave would not have let that happen. I think that ditchy and salty should do a show in the afternoon drive time slot like Scott Hughes and glen hunt did and then glen hunt and loran bancroft can do the breakfast show, loran knows all about the breakfast show with her doing the breakfast show in the lake district, I think on the bay radio?

    After finding a great radio breakfast show 2 years ago, with 3 uplifting presenters, Ditchy, Salty & Debs it looks like I’m going to have to go back to radio 2 for the drive to work. What a short sited management decision to drop them from this slot.

      Cannot believe Ditchy & Salty have gone. Mornings driving to school will not be the same again them, they made us laugh so much. We definitely won’t be listening to real radio again.

    Can’t understand this decision – any replacement will have to go some to be as good or better – I’ll see what its like, but already not impressed with the late night show, so may be moving to another station.

    What a stupid decision it’s bad enough that I have stopped going to sleep with Real radio because of the horrible loud American but now I won’t wake up with Ditchy and Salty. Ah well bye bye Real Radio it was nice knowing you!

    if it aint broke dont fix it. No offence to Lorna Olli or Debs, 99% of the north west woke up to Dtchy and Salty maybe higher management need to listen to its customers and get D&S back in the morning, real are going to lose a shedload of listeners

    I hope real radio haven’t done the same thing that daybreak did on itv. That was a massive mistake. The rule is if it isn’t broke you don’t fix it

    total disgrace been listening to century / real for 6 years since salty left radio city but his connection and banter with ditchy over the last 3 years has been nothing short of amazing they seem to know what each other is thinking the kind of connection brothers have and to split these two brothers and to take them off air is a disgrace and i hope that all ditchy and salty fans delete facebook friends of the station and turn over to other stations until this decision has been reversed good luck to ditchy and salty whatever happens

    good luck to the top presenter’s ditchy&salty you guys will be very sadly missed by me and my partner i used to listen to you guys on my way to work :)
    now my drive will be boring :( real radio you have made a bad mistake spliting the guys up shame on you

    I’ve been travelling to work with RR for 7 yrs. Most of that time listening to Salty and his previous partners. Then Ditchy came along. Omg I have gone to work giggling with tears in my eyes. Thes two guys are the best thing ever to be on radio. The interaction with the listeners is just the best. You sit there in your car feeling part of a very special community if not family. They are fun. Honest. Entertaining. Human. And we love them. It was gutting to learn they were going. This is an award winning duo with the ability to do even more. I don’t listen to RR now and I have listened to the new show but it as no charisma. No soul. And definitely no family feel. My drive to work is depressing enough but I never really noticed it before. Someone see what / who these remarkable guys are and put them back on breakfast time together forever then I’ll have my breakfast family back and can get on enjoying the radio again.     I can/t believe there is no more Ditchy and Salty – they kept me so amused on my way to work. I spent the whole of my journey the other day flicking through radio stations trying to find something to listen to – there is nothing like the boys ! I hope someone snaps them up and their loyal listeners up soon!!

    I have listened to the Breakfast show on REal Radio (previously Century) for years after it was recommended to me by a colleague. I always enjoyed it but once Ditchy and Salty got together it was like you were all part of one big family. It took me 1.5 hours to get to work each morning and without the fun and laughter I have shared with them and other listeners I would have left my employment long before I did. Who in their right mind would axe this Sony award winning show. Thats why myself and a further 3,152 listeners jave joined the “Don’t axe the Real Radio Ditchy and Salty Breakfast Show” on facebook. We are a good natured group of people that really miss the two lads as part of our daily routine. We will follow them to wherever they go next – which is a great loss to RR. I have personally switched off RR after their last show together on 23rd December and will only be listening to it from now on when the lads are presenting their shows on the graveyard shift.    #saveditchyandsalty

    Real radio have made their biggest mistake, Ditchy and Salty together made a fantatsic start to the day and always brought a smile to my face.  Really annoyed that this has happened.  the new show is rubbish and now they axe Debbie …… the problem is no Salty and Ditchy because Oli and Lorna don’t suit breakfast radio

    Cant believe you got rid of the only two people that liven your station up ,I loved listening of a morning they made my day ,i wont listen to your station any more I too found another to listen to ,two girls and a guy are rubbish stupid guy and the new girl is gobby .What a boob you have made

    i just wanted to say that since Ditchy and Salty left the morning show it has gone down hill i cant listen in any more its so boring the presenters are boring i cant stand listening to there dull voices
    Ditchy and Salty were a brilliant team and were so funny,you will certainly loose a lot of morning listeners bad move Real Radio

    I am not an offensive person but today’s drivel about Coronation Street made me miss Ditichy and Salty ever more. I commute and used to listen daily but now am switching stations and even using my near extinct CD player rather than listen to what I consider to be rather boring, trying too hard replacements. Replace football with Coronation Street was today’s discussion. Give. Me. Strength. And I am female so no preconceptions about gender please
