Digital radio station Premier Christian Radio is hoping to break a world record this month for the largest number of people singing Christmas carols at the same time.

The station – which broadcasts nationally on DAB and via digital television as well as on medium wave in London – has already signed up more than 22,000 people across the UK to take part as they attempt to beat the current record of 15,000.

The world record bid takes place at 7pm on Sunday 18th December, with churches and organisations across the UK holding their own events which will count towards the attempt.

Pam Rhodes, Premier’s Heart’s & Hymns Presenter said: “Christmas just wouldn’t be Christmas without the Carols and the mince pies. Everyone loves singing Christmas Carols, and this Guinness World Record attempt is a great way to get friends and family together to do just that and be a Record Breaker too!”

Find out more and see an interactive map of the places taking part on Premier’s Christmas Starts website.

Its complete nonsense to say that the world record is “currently 15,000″
There are over 9,000 Church of England clergy of which the majority will hold a Carol Service on the Sunday Evening before Christmas. So if just 75 attend each venue (186 attended mine)  that means 675,000 attend a Carol Service every year JUST IN ANGLICAN CHURCHES!!  Makes the “15,000″ look ridiculously low.  I think there about 25,000 places of worship in Britain and most of them will hold a Carol Service so the real figure is, almost certainly, over 1 MILLION.  And this happens EVERY YEAR, year on year on year.  So I dont think any record has been broken in 2011
