Orion radio duo join Dancing on Ice

Orion Media weekend presenters Sam and Mark are taking part in this year’s ITV reality show Dancing on Ice and will compete against each other on the series.

The boys do Sunday mornings on the group’s network of stations comprising BRMB, Beacon, Mercia, Wyvern and Gem 106.

The first of this year’s Dancing on Ice shows airs this weekend, and also features celebs such as actress Jennifer Ellison, singer Chesney Hawkes and Sugababes star Heidi Range, who recently split from her Capital FM presenter boyfriend Dave Berry.

Sam and Mark told TV Choice that they’ve already been in training: “We didn’t realise how difficult it would be, but I think we’ve surprised ourselves how much we’ve been enjoying it.”

Sam added: “It was about two months ago when we got asked. You do training before you get to meet all the coaches, and then it’s just every day.”

The boys shot to fame after appearing as separate contestants on the 2003 series of Pop Idol and have gone onto present a number of children’s TV shows as well as their radio show in the Midlands.

Meanwhile, Heart presenter Emma Bunton steps down from her role as a judge on the show this year.

Dancing on Ice has had a number of radio presenters as contestants over the years – including Andi Peters, Neil Fox, Phil Gayle and Radio 1’s ‘Comedy’ Dave Vitty.
