Sam Walker leaves Key 103 for Real NW

Key 103 afternoon presenter Sam Walker is moving across Manchester to join the new breakfast show line-up on rival station Real Radio North West.

She’ll become part of Two Girls And A Guy from 2nd April, but will continue her weekly Sunday morning show on BBC Radio 5 live.

Sam will team up with Lorna Bancroft and Oli Kemp on Real Radio, who only started their new breakfast show last week and took over from Ditchy and Salty.

Sam said: “So often female presenters at breakfast time are consigned to supporting roles so it’s fantastic that Real Radio are creating a team where women are placed front and centre. The team at Real are fantastic and I can’t wait to join in the fun at breakfast with Lorna and Oli.”

Mark Matthews, Real Radio Brand Programme Director, added: “Sam joining Real is a great finishing touch to what will be one of the most original breakfast shows on UK radio. Her wealth of experience will make Real Radio Breakfast ‘The’ must listen show for families across the North West.”

Sam has been doing Key 103′s afternoon show since January 2010 having moved from the station’s late show. She has also presented for Xfm in Manchester as well as doing regular work for BBC Radio Manchester. She joined 5 live last summer as co-host of the topical news and current affairs discussion programme ‘Double Take’ which she now co-presents with Anita Anand. Sam also is joint founder of the radio training and representation firm What Goes On Media.

    What a joke!! Where has Debbie gone??? You have realised that your current format has not worked. Why fix it if it isn’t broke??? Mark Matthews….you are ruining the Real Radio brand!! If you have sirloin steak why replace with smart price mince??? Ditchy, Salty and Debbie are by far the best things that have happened to Real Radio for as long as I have listened.
    I no longer do I might add. Maybe you should look at getting a new Brand Programme Manager who isn’t going to lose you thousands of listeners???

    well well well looks like as the song goes “there may be trouble ahead” whats happening to debbie as to be the burning question ????? , the guys running real havent got a clue what there doing (no disrespect aimed at any of the other presenters) i am sure you all very good at what you do ,but come on this unreal radio are the laughing stock of radio land at the minute bring D&S back and watch your figures grow again ,

    Can’t understand why you would mess with a format that was so clearly working.  Can’t the bosses see that Ditchy, Salty and Debbie were a much loved part of our morning schedule.  Nothing against the new crew in the slots that they had before but they just aren’t the same.   Realise you have made a terrible mistake and bring the breakfast show back again before even more listeners find an alternative station to listen to.

    sorry but although david was a great dj and should have been given a breakfast show years before, paul was average at best, he was a newsreader who got lucky. Real Radio have had numerous better breakfast shows in the past rather than David and Paul. Sam Walker is a good dj and perhaps though it appears strange to be announcing her joining the team at this point – it could well be the orginal plan but due to contract issues with key103, they could not announce it until today

      Sam Walker would almost certainly have had to work out three months contractual notice, which is why she couldn’t join the show at the start of January. You can bet that she was always part of the original plan but they couldn’t announce it until today.

      The is not a knee-jerk reaction to any poor ratings figures for the new show - there haven’t been any released yet! Debbie is just a temp but she knew that when she took the show.

    Real lost the plot sometime ago. In reality they seem to want female secretarys who want Take That and Lady GaGa on the hour every hour. Ditchy and Salty were probably getting too blokey for them. Parksy will be next, sounding old against the age group they are going for.

    In reality the station was much better as an upbeat rival to Radio 2, 70s to today. Competing with Key and City no body wins- apart from Chris Evans and co who will lap up the drifting listeners.

    I have taken Real off the car presets- grown out of it. When will someone get that 40s may not be ready for Smooth-gap in the Market? For which the likes of Ditchy and Salty perfectly fit and not predictable boy girl breakfast battle blandness

    Never listened to her show on key 103, but I don’t feel this will be the smartest career move! Not all people are boycotting the breakfast show on RR because they don’t like Lorna or Debbie, they are making a stand against the ill treatment of D&S. It’s a matter of principle. Some people will dislike her instantly because of what she isn’t.

    i guess debbie gets the same treatment as D&S,shame you had the best breakfast show on the radio and now you have nothing…..i turned off after D&S finished there last show and i wont listen again to real radio unless you bring them back!!….real radio ,dont make me laugh more like rear radio now….

    Who is Sam Walker, she is not welcome to Real Radio stay with Key 103, you have made massive biggest mistake ever Real Radio boss, now get rid of Two Girls & A Guy on breakfast show is awful on weekdays and also get rid of Ryan Seacrest he is getting boring now. Bring back Ditchy, Salty and Debbie on breakfast show on weekdays for good from 6am to 10am and golden hour songs back to Ditchy and Salty, Now i listen to Real Radio’s sister station Smooth Radio breakfast show with Simon Bates or go on BBC Radio 2 with Chris Evans breakfast show.

    I am still stagered at real radio as to why they have axed one of the best radio shows of all times with Ditchy Salty and Debbie can any one answer the question as i sure as hell cannot. Why do you fix something that was never broke in the first place? thanks Joanne

    This mornings show was awful, even worse than 2 girls and a guy. Banging on about mum’s and babies DAY AFTER DAY will drive listeners away. Not a patch on Ditchy and Salty.

    Totally switched off with these two. Sick of the false forced laughter and tripe they talk about. They are not funny and I cringe when listening to some of the stuff they come out with. I’m a mum but don’t need baby talk shoved down my throat every day. I used to listen to 103 but switched to Real when Ditchy & Salty took over. They were so funny and made my morning journey to work a pleasure. I now listen to Christ Evans on radio 2. Sorry Real you have got it so wrong BIG TIME!!!!
