6 Music wins both radio Music Week Awards

BBC Radio 6 Music has scooped two prizes at this year’s music industry awards organised by Music Week.

It was named Radio Station of the Year, while presenter Steve Lamacq picked up the award for Best Radio Show.

6 Music takes the Station of the Year honour for the second year running, beating sister station Radio 2 as well as Radio 1, Capital FM, Absolute Radio, Kerrang! Radio and Wave 105 to the prize.

In the radio show category, Lamacq’s programme on the digital station beat the likes of Chris Evans, Mistajam, Roger Day’s BBC Local Radio show and Bauer’s Jim Gellatly (In Demand: Uncut in Scotland) and the Kiss FM breakfast team.

Steve Lamacq tweeted: “Thank you for all the love. Well done everyone.” 6 Music’s mid-morning presenter Lauren Laverne wrote: “Huge congrats to the @6Music gang, especially @lamacqshow. I’m going to wash Shaun’s eyeliner off now.”

The Music Week Awards took place at The Brewery in Central London last night and featured an appearance from singer Adele, whose manager Jonathan Dickins won the Manager of the Year prize. The event was hosted by stand-up comedian Greg Davies.

Judging in the radio categories was done by a panel of senior execs from within the music and radio industries.
