Ex-Smiths drummer starts Beatwolf Radio

Mike Joyce, the drummer with Manchester band The Smiths, is running an new online radio station which has started broadcasts from Salford Quays.

Beatwolf Radio’s line-up includes 6 Music presenter Jo Good and former 6 Music host Vic McGlynn – as well as well-know Manchester music scene figures like Dave Haslam and Phil Beckett.

The station is run by Jungle Media, a digital agency that already has an online music magazine called Beatwolf.

Joyce – who has presented at Oldham station The Revolution and also done fill-in work on 6 Music – told How-Do: “Everybody has got two-hour slots. There are no playlists, and its genre-less. They choose their own material which includes interviews, features, reviews and sessions. Judging by the feedback we’ve had it’s what people have been looking for for sometime.”

Jo and Vic have teamed up to host the weekday afternoon show together. Good has worked at stations including Galaxy, XFM and 6 Music, while McGlynn has done shows for stations including Galaxy 102, Rock FM, Millennium FM, Virgin Megastore Radio and Channel 4 FM in Dubai. She also spent three years at BBC 6 Music 2003-2006.

Beatwolf Radio is based in studios at Digital Park on Pacific Way, just around the corner from MediaCityUK.
