Planet Rock to charge for programmes

Digital station Planet Rock has announced plans to charge £5 a month for an VIP club, which will provide listeners with extra ad-free programmes and content online.

Daily shows will be offered to subscribers, as well as live session recordings and video content.

The station says the initiative is aimed at creating new revenue and securing its long term future.

The new Planet Rock VIP club will launch on 14th June, with existing members getting a two-week free trial followed by a month’s free subscription. After that it will cost £4.99 a month. Listeners will also be able to use the VIP club to access competitions, special offers and chances to provide feedback on the station’s playlist.

Malcolm Bluemel, Planet Rock’s CEO, told RadioToday.co.uk: “The world is changing and Planet Rock has to change with it. We are asking our family of listeners to help us make that change and secure the future of their favourite radio station.”

Planet Rock has announced the following special programmes which will be available each week advert-free in HD sound to paying VIP club members:

Monday – Darren Redick – One Man and His Prog
Tuesday – Nicky Horne – The Other Side of….
Wednesday – Bernard Doherty – Blues Power
Thursday – Rob Birnie – Classic Albums
Friday – Paul Anthony – The Playlist
