Real Radio search for Wets gig support act

Real Radio Scotland has joined Wet Wet Wet to help find a support act to perform at the group’s 25th anniversary gig in Glasgow next month.

A crowd of 15,000 will watch the pop group at Glasgow Green on 20th July – along with an act who will be picked from the entrants via Real Radio’s website.

Wets drummer Tommy Cunningham launched the competition for their support act live on Real Radio Breakfast with Ewen Cameron and Michelle McManus (standing in for Cat Harvey who’s on holiday). Tommy said: “This is an opportunity of a lifetime. We want a Scottish young band or solo performer to be the opening act for Wet Wet Wet. This happened to us way back at the start when we were lucky enough to be Lionel Richie’s support. We didn’t know anything about the business and we got that massive audience and we want someone in Scotland to come and do that same thing for us and come on stage and warm everyone up. You’ve no idea how it changes you when you get on that stage, the things you learn, the experience of it all, the way it invigorates you and makes your career go forward. The new Ed Sheeran or the new Wet Wet Wet will get to be on that stage.”

Real Radio Scotland breakfast host Ewen Cameron said: “This is a massive opportunity for a new Scottish act to be seen by thousands of people and who knows, maybe get the big break they’ve been waiting for. Real Radio is proud the Wets have chosen us to help them with this search and I’m sure our listeners won’t disappoint!”

Wet Wet Wet will choose their top 5 from the entrants, which will then be put to an online vote on Real Radio’s website.
