Steve White joins Hallam FM for drive

Former BBC Radio Sheffield presenter Steve White has switched to the city’s commercial station Hallam FM as the new host of afternoon drivetime.

Barnsley-born Steve makes a return to Herries Road, 20 years after being invited in to co-present the breakfast show with Dave Kilner at the age of 10.

Steve told RadioToday.co.uk: “It is so weird to be back in the very same Hallam FM studio that I visited as a kid and presenting on the radio station I grew up listening to! Excited doesn’t even cover it!”

Programme Director Owen Ryan said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming Steve to our Hallam team. Steve’s love for Hallam FM and South Yorkshire and the fact that he’s born and bred in the region makes him the perfect addition to a team that is passionate about super serving the people of Sheffield, Barnsley, Rotherham and Doncaster.”

Steve took over the weekday 3-7pm slot from yesterday (Monday). He was previously hosting a weekly Soul and Motown show on BBC Radio Sheffield and Radio Leeds as well as the early breakfast slot. John Kane is taking over the specialist music show.

Before joining the BBC he spent a year at Hallam in 2006 and previously was breakfast presenter at Lincs FM Group’s Dearne FM for three years from launch.
