Today sees a new drivetime, or Early Evening show start at 1Xtra as Tim Westwood is replaced by Charlie Sloth.
The changes were announced in May when Westwood tweeted that he’d been sacked from drive time. He’ll continue to host his Saturday show on the digital only station, but not a new Sunday show as previously announced.
Nick Bright will now present the weekend mid-morning show and a new weekend breakfast show has been introduced with Yasmin Evans. The late night weekday changes includes a simulcast with Radio 1 from 2-4pm each day.
Speaking about his new Early Evening show Charlie said: “I’m very excited about being given the opportunity to speak to the nation for five days a week and for the faith put in me by the Radio 1Xtra team.”
Tim Westwood said: “It’s been a lot of fun and a great experience.”
Controller Ben Cooper said: “As 1Xtra nears its 10th birthday it’s great to be welcoming a new generation of presenters to the station who will take on the baton of championing the best in urban music for a young audience.
“Tim has proved to be one of the most influential figures in UK hip-hop and I’m delighted that he will continue to bring his wealth of knowledge and unique style to Radio 1 and 1Xtra across the weekends.”
