Ofcom rejects Scottish Asian application

Ofcom has awarded two further community radio stations in Scotland, and rejected two more, including a station for Scottish Asians.

APNA Radio wanted to serve the Asian / Indian Sub Continent population in Edinburgh & the surrounding areas, delivering entertainment, community information, local, national and international news in Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi and English.

But the regulator rejected this application along with East Lothian FM in Haddington. No reason is ever given for rejected applications.

The two winning applications are Crystal FM – promising “a community radio service catering for all residents of Penicuik and surrounding villages in Midlothian” and East coast FM which proposes to serve those living and working in Haddington and in the surrounding area.”

Community radio services are provided on a not-for-profit basis focusing on the delivery of specific social benefits to a particular geographical community or a community of interest and are awarded for a five-year period.
